    Study on steady-state thermal conduction with singularities in multi-material composites

    Increasing demand in material and mechanical properties has led to production of complex composite structures. The composite structures, made of different materials, possess a variety of properties derived from each material. This has brought challenges in both analytical and numerical studies in thermal conduction which is of significant importance for thermoelastic problems. Therefore, a unified and effective approach would be desirable. The present study makes a first attempt to determining the analytical symplectic eigen solution for steady-state thermal conduction problem of multi-material crack. Based on the obtained symplectic eigen solution (including higher order expanding eigen solution terms), a new symplectic analytical singular element (SASE) for numerical modeling is constructed. It is concluded that composite structures composed of multi-material with complex geometric shapes can be modeled by the developed method, and the generalized flux intensity factors (GFIFs) can be solved accurately and efficiently

    Separating the mixture of the K1(1270) K_{1}(1270) and K1(1400)K_{1}(1400) states, the B→K1(1270,1400)ννˉB\to K_{1}(1270, 1400)\nu\bar{\nu} transition form factors are calculated in the three-point QCD sum rules approach. The longitudinal, transverse and total decay widths as well as the asymmetry parameter, characterizing the polarization of the axial K1(1270,1400)K_{1}(1270, 1400) and the branching ratio for these decays are evaluated.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figures, 3 table

    Spectral Subtraction of Robot Motion Noise for Improved Event Detection in Tactile Acceleration Signals

    New robots for teleoperation and autonomous manipulation are increasingly being equipped with high-bandwidth accelerometers for measuring the transient vibrational cues that occur during con- tact with objects. Unfortunately, the robot\u27s own internal mechanisms often generate significant high-frequency accelerations, which we term ego-vibrations. This paper presents an approach to characterizing and removing these signals from acceleration measurements. We adapt the audio processing technique of spectral subtraction over short time windows to remove the noise that is estimated to occur at the robot\u27s present joint velocities. Implementation for the wrist roll and gripper joints on a Willow Garage PR2 robot demonstrates that spectral subtraction significantly increases signal-to-noise ratio, which should improve vibrotactile event detection in both teleoperation and autonomous robotics

    Within the Standard Model, we investigate the semi-leptonic weak decays of J/ψJ/\psi. The various form factors of J/ψJ/\psi transiting to a single charmed meson (D(d,s)(∗)D^{(*)}_{(d,s)}) are studied in the framework of the QCD sum rules. These form factors fully determine the rates of the weak semi-leptonic decays of J/ψJ/\psi and provide valuable information about the non-perturbative QCD effects. Our results indicate that the decay rate of the semi-leptonic weak decay mode J/ψ→Ds(∗)−+e++νeJ/\psi \to D^{(*)-}_{s}+e^{+}+\nu_{e} is at order of 10−1010^{-10}.Comment: 28 pages, 6 figures, revised version to be published in Eur.Phys.J.

    Stimulated by recent observations of the excited bottom-strange mesons Bs1B_{s1} and Bs2∗B_{s2}^*, we calculate the semileptonic decays Bs0,Bs1′,Bs1,Bs2∗→[Ds(1968),Ds∗(2112),DsJ(2317),DsJ(2460)]ℓνˉB_{s0}, B_{s1}^{\prime}, B_{s1}, B_{s2}^*\to [D_s(1968), D_{s}^*(2112), D_{sJ}(2317), D_{sJ}(2460)]\ell\bar{\nu}, which is relevant for the exploration of the potential of searching these semileptonic decays in experiment.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 9 tables.     Haptography: Capturing and Recreating the Rich Feel of Real Surfaces

    Haptic interfaces, which allow a user to touch virtual and remote environments through a hand-held tool, have opened up exciting new possibilities for applications such as computer-aided design and robot-assisted surgery. Unfortunately, the haptic renderings produced by these systems seldom feel like authentic re-creations of the richly varied surfaces one encounters in the real world. We have thus envisioned the new approach of haptography, or haptic photography, in which an individual quickly records a physical interaction with a real surface and then recreates that experience for a user at a different time and/or place. This paper presents an overview of the goals and methods of haptography, emphasizing the importance of accurately capturing and recreating the high frequency accelerations that occur during tool-mediated interactions. In the capturing domain, we introduce a new texture modeling and synthesis method based on linear prediction applied to acceleration signals recorded from real tool interactions. For recreating, we show a new haptography handle prototype that enables the user of a Phantom Omni to feel fine surface features and textures

    Lepton flavor violation decays τ−→μ−P1P2\tau^-\to \mu^- P_1 P_2 in the topcolor-assisted technicolor model and the littlest Higgs model with TT parity

    The new particles predicted by the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2TC2) model and the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (called LHTLHT model) can induce the lepton flavor violation (LFVLFV) couplings at tree level or one loop level, which might generate large contributions to some LFVLFV processes. Taking into account the constraints of the experimental data on the relevant free parameters, we calculate the branching ratios of the LFVLFV decay processes τ−→μ−P1P2\tau^-\to\mu^- P_1 P_2 with P1P2P_1 P_2 = π+π−\pi^+\pi^-, K+K−K^+K^- and K0K0ˉK^0\bar{K^0} in the context of these two kinds of new physics models. We find that the TC2TC2 model and the LHTLHT model can indeed produce significant contributions to some of these LFVLFV decay processes.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure

    Rare Decays of \Lambda_b->\Lambda + \gamma and \Lambda_b ->\Lambda + l^{+} l^{-} in the Light-cone Sum Rules

    Within the Standard Model, we investigate the weak decays of Λb→Λ+γ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda + \gamma and Λb→Λ+l+l−\Lambda_b \to \Lambda + l^{+} l^{-} with the light-cone sum rules approach. The higher twist distribution amplitudes of Λ\Lambda baryon to the leading conformal spin are included in the sum rules for transition form factors. Our results indicate that the higher twist distribution amplitudes almost have no influences on the transition form factors retaining the heavy quark spin symmetry, while such corrections can result in significant impacts on the form factors breaking the heavy quark spin symmetry. Two phenomenological models (COZ and FZOZ) for the wave function of Λ\Lambda baryon are also employed in the sum rules for a comparison, which can give rise to the form factors approximately 5 times larger than that in terms of conformal expansion. Utilizing the form factors calculated in LCSR, we then perform a careful study on the decay rate, polarization asymmetry and forward-backward asymmetry, with respect to the decays of Λb→Λγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma, Λl+l−\Lambda l^{+}l^{-}.Comment: 38 pages, 15 figures, some typos are corrected and more references are adde
